ART TITLES.…………………What Were They Thinking?

You admire the work of a painter, an artist, a creator of color and beauty. You are inspired by the work this particular artist has created and the feeling it has evoked in you and then you read the title of the work! What were they thinking? Where did they come up with a name like that? If you didn’t know better, you would have thought the artist was a former Belmont horse owner who took great pride in the naming of their fold! A painting of a single flower titled, “Lily’s Neck in Neck at the Pathway Garden Gate Payout” just doesn’t cut it for you as an art lover, because you just don’t see it that way! Good grief! It’s a flower! But wait, it is not the name of the art that you admire, it is the art itself and for whatever reason the artist was moved to give their work of art a name like that is NOT the point. The “point” is that you admire it and continue to enjoy it for a long time to come. For me personally as an artist, I think it is very creative when an artist has taken time to express their feeling about their work when giving their art a name. I paint a palm tree. I call it a “palm,” Kudos to the creative namers of art. I think I will give my next painting of a palm a better and more interesting name like, “ Sophisticated Lady Palm Across Miami Moon with a Twist!” Hmm….I kinda like that!
